Stefano Compostella StriaXL: An Italian Maestro’s Full-Steel Flipper
This Stefano Compostella StriaXL is a one-off custom flipper built almost entirely from hardened steel. Stefano Compostella works in Crema, Italy. Moreover, he holds the rank of Maestro within the Corporazione Italiana Coltellinai.
Most StriaXL folders wear carbon fiber or micarta scales. This one does not. Instead, the scales and the backspacer are solid Damasteel, mirror polished, then hardened to 60 HRC. Because of that, the whole knife reads as one continuous block of steel. Collectors who follow master custom knifemakers will recognize how rare that build really is.
Erasteel APZ10 Blade Steel, Hardened to 60 HRC
The Stefano Compostella StriaXL carries a blade of Erasteel ASP APZ10 powder metallurgy stainless steel. APZ10 is a high-chromium PM steel. Therefore, it resists both wear and corrosion at a very high level. Stefano heat treated this blade to 60 HRC.
The grind is hand finished with a bright satin luster. Furthermore, the blade runs roughly 4.25 inches. It combines a long straight edge with a gently upswept tip. As a result, it slices cleanly and still looks dramatic in hand. You can read more about premium blade steels in our knife knowledge library.
Damasteel Ladder Scales Hardened to Match the Blade
Damasteel is a modern stainless Damascus made in Sweden. The Ladder pattern shows tight, repeating rings that ripple across the full scale. Above all, these scales are not soft decorative overlays. Stefano mirror polished them, then hardened them to a full 60 HRC.
The matching backspacer uses the same Ladder billet. Consequently, the pattern flows without a break from spine to butt. The polish gives the pattern real depth under light. In addition, the extra steel adds weight that most titanium folders simply cannot match. Pieces like this one come to us direct from the maker.
Titanium 6Al4V Frame, Stainless Hardware, and Flipper Action
Aerospace-grade titanium 6Al4V forms the structural liners. You can see the liner line running along the spine. Meanwhile, every pivot, pin, and screw is polished stainless steel.
The knife opens on a manual flipper tab. The detent is crisp, and the action runs smooth and quiet. Also, the blade sits perfectly centered when closed. The liner lock engages early and holds with zero play. Browse more folding knives built to this standard.
Compostella 1895: An Italian Knife Family Since the 1800s
The Compostella family opened a knife and cutting-tool shop in Italy in 1895. For generations, they sold and studied the world’s best blades. Stefano grew up inside that trade. Eventually, he moved from selling knives to making them himself.
He named the brand Compostella 1895 after that founding year. Today he grinds every blade by hand on manual equipment. Because he refuses production machinery, output stays small and quality stays high. You can find more Italian and European work when you shop by maker.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this knife new or used?
It is mint and unused. Stefano finished it in August 2025. Since then it has been stored, not carried.
What makes this StriaXL different from a standard model?
Standard versions use carbon fiber, micarta, or stabilized wood scales. This build uses solid Damasteel instead. Moreover, those scales and the backspacer are hardened to 60 HRC, matching the blade exactly.
Will the Damasteel handle rust?
No. Damasteel is a stainless Damascus. Therefore, normal handling will not stain it. Simply wipe the polished surfaces with a soft cloth after use.
Does it come with paperwork?
Yes. The signed Certificate of Authenticity ships with the knife. It lists the model, steels, frame, and build date, and it carries Stefano’s signature. We document provenance on every piece we sell.
How is it shipped?
We ship insured and fully protected in the original case. In addition, you can review our shipping and return policy before you order.
