Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic: A Guitar Milled Into Titanium
This Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic is in mint, preowned condition. Chris Reeve Knives built it in Boise on June 21, 2012. Moreover, the hand-signed birth card names the model and records that exact date.
CGG stands for Computer Generated Graphic. The pattern is milled directly into the titanium scale, then anodized in several colors. Consequently, nothing here is a sticker, a print, or a laser etch. It came to us from a collection of preowned knives stored in a climate-controlled environment.
How Chris Reeve Made the Acoustic Graphic
Look closely at the show side. A full acoustic guitar runs the length of the handle. The headstock sits at the pivot end. Meanwhile, the body and bridge fill the butt.
Six strings run unbroken from tuners to bridge in warm copper tone. The fretboard carries individual frets and position markers. Furthermore, the soundhole wears a braided rosette anodized in blue, ringed against the raw titanium.
Each color comes from anodizing titanium at a different voltage. Therefore the depth you see is real machining, not applied color. Chris Reeve retired the Acoustic pattern years ago, and it has not returned.
CPM S35VN at 58 to 59 RC
This Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic carries a 3.625-inch CPM S35VN drop point blade. Crucible developed S35VN with input from Chris Reeve himself. It added niobium to S30V for better toughness and easier sharpening.
The birth card records 58 to 59 RC. That is deliberately moderate. Reeve favored toughness and field sharpening over chasing maximum hardness numbers. As a result, the edge holds well and comes back quickly on a stone.
Blade stock measures 0.125 inch. The box still wears its Crucible CPM S35VN label. Our knife knowledge library covers how S35VN compares to today’s steels.
Sandblasted Titanium, Integral Lock, and Blue Hardware
Both scales and the lockbar are sandblasted 6Al4V titanium. The finish is even and matte across the whole handle. Additionally, it shows no snail trails from carry.
The Reeve Integral Lock does the work. A single blue anodized thumb stud opens it, and blue anodized barrel standoffs carry through the same accent. Meanwhile, the reverse scale is stamped IDAHO MADE, and a black lanyard with a Reeve knot hangs from the butt. Collectors rate this among the most refined folding knives ever produced.
Why the 21 Still Matters
Chris Reeve introduced the Sebenza 21 in 2008 to mark twenty-one years of the design. It uses a pivot bushing system. Therefore you can torque the pivot fully and the action stays smooth.
The Sebenza 31 replaced it in 2019. Still, many long-time collectors prefer the 21. Demand for clean examples has not softened, which is why they appear so often among the most valuable custom knifemakers we track.
Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic Condition and What’s Included
The knife is mint and preowned. It presents as unused, with bright anodizing, crisp graphic detail, no blade play, and no sharpening. In addition, the titanium shows no carry marks.
It ships complete. You receive the original white Chris Reeve box, the hand-signed birth card, the blue Chris Reeve microfiber cloth, the L-shaped Allen wrench, the caution card, and the factory literature and sticker. The box also carries its Crucible CPM S35VN label and its BLADE Manufacturing Quality Award stickers. Read how we grade before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does CGG mean on a Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic?
CGG stands for Computer Generated Graphic. Chris Reeve designed these patterns in CAD, then milled them into the titanium and anodized them. Accordingly, every unit repeats the same artwork with precision.
Is the Acoustic graphic still available?
No. Chris Reeve discontinued it, and the Sebenza 21 itself gave way to the 31 in 2019. Therefore the only source now is the secondary market.
Why does the 2012 date matter?
Sebenzas carry no serial number, so the birth date identifies each individual knife. Moreover, 2012 sits in the heart of the S35VN era, before Chris Reeve moved to S45VN and MagnaCut.
Can this Sebenza 21 CGG Acoustic be carried?
It can, and the Sebenza was built to work. However, carry marks the sandblasted titanium quickly. Consequently, most buyers keep a mint graphic example in the collection instead.
How do you verify authenticity?
We check hardware, machining, stamps, and factory paperwork against known references. In addition, we photograph every marking before listing. Questions are welcome on our FAQs page.
