Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon: A 2025 Model C Double-Action OTF
This Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon is a Deadlock Model C, engraved with its 2025 build year. Grant and Gavin Hawk designed the Deadlock so a double-action OTF locks open with zero blade play. Here the blade is a 3.5 inch double-edge dagger in Böhler M390. The frame is Titanium, inlaid on both faces with marbled blue Fat Carbon.
The Deadlock Model C is also the OTF that John Wick carries in John Wick: Chapter 4. This knife is a 2025 example of that model. It came to us from a small collection, and it is in excellent condition.
Our earlier Deadlock Model C in blue Carbon Fiber and Titanium also carried M390. This is a different knife, though, and its inlays are marbled blue Fat Carbon. For classic woven Carbon Fiber, see our Hawk Deadlock 20CV from 2022.
Grant and Gavin Hawk – American-made Knives Crafted in Idaho City
Grant and Gavin Hawk, father and son, built Hawk Knife Designs in Idaho City, Idaho, an old mining town. They started making knives in the 1990s. Instead of refining existing locks, they invented new ones, and that became the shop’s signature.
Their mechanisms include the Hawk Lock, the RAM Safe Spin, the E.T. (External Toggle) and the Beetle. CRKT, Kershaw, Böker and Quartermaster have all licensed Hawk designs. The Hawk Lock, for example, runs under license on the NCC Ragnarok Hawk V7.
Grant Hawk died in November 2023, at 82. This Deadlock carries a 2025 date, and its frame still reads G&G HAWK. Gavin Hawk’s name is on the contact card in the kit. For another Hawk automatic in the same steel, see the Hawk Talon Auto in brightwashed M390.
The Hawk Deadlock in John Wick: Chapter 4
In the first three John Wick films, Wick carried Microtech OTF knives. For John Wick: Chapter 4, the producers chose the Hawk Deadlock Model C instead. It plays a prominent part in the film, and it marked the first time Wick turned away from Microtech. So the Model C you see here is the same platform John Wick carries on screen.
Hawk also released a John Wick 4 set, limited to 500. It pairs a black DLC CPM MagnaCut blade with Fat Carbon inlays and a wooden presentation box. Each set includes a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) signed by Grant and Gavin Hawk. This knife does not come from that set. Rather, it is a 2025 Model C in stonewashed M390 and blue Fat Carbon.
How the Deadlock Removes Blade Play
An OTF blade travels through a channel inside the handle, and that channel needs clearance. Once the blade fires, that clearance usually shows up as play. So for decades, collectors accepted a slight wobble as the cost of an out-the-front automatic.
The Hawks patented their answer as US Patent 9,498,889, granted in November 2016. When the blade fires, a stop pin on the tang wedges against a stop plate cut at two angles. As a result, the blade locks in two planes at once. In the hand, it feels like a fixed blade.
The Model C is the third Deadlock. Models A and B were heavy tactical knives that proved the mechanism. Then the Model C slimmed the platform for everyday carry, and it kept the same lockup.
Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon Inlays and Titanium Frame
Fat Carbon is a Carbon Fiber composite, made in Utena, Lithuania, by a company founded there in 2019. Colored polymers and layers go into each billet. So every piece shows its own pattern, even when two come from the same billet. Here it reads as marbled blue, set into the Titanium frame on both faces. Fat Carbon also inlays the Herman Knives Sting Flipper.
On the show side, an engraved Hawk logo sits near the butt, with a small Fat Carbon point at the very end. The clip side carries a fluted panel set into the Fat Carbon between the frame screws. Grooves cut across the butt give the hand a firm hold.
The milled Titanium pocket clip carries the knife tip-down. A pin at the butt mounts it as a hinged lever. Along the edges of the frame, Hawk engraved DEADLOCK Ti. 2025 G&G HAWK and MODEL C PAT. #9498889 M390.
Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon Blade and Double Action
This Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon carries a symmetrical double-edge dagger, 3.5 inches long and sharpened on both edges. M390 is a powder metallurgy steel from the Austrian steelmaker Böhler. It carries about 20 percent chromium and 4 percent vanadium. As a result, it resists both wear and corrosion. A stonewash finish covers the blade and hides handling marks.
A stepped Titanium thumb slider sits on the show side. Push it forward, and the blade fires out of the front. Then pull it back, and the same slider retracts it. That double action sets the Deadlock apart from a single action OTF. The 2001 Microtech Exodus, for example, fires forward but resets by hand.
Condition and What Is Included With This Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon
This Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon comes to you preowned and in excellent condition, with no blemishes, wear or flaws. It fires crisply, and the lock engages with no play. Our grading standards explain what excellent means here. It ships with no Certificate of Authenticity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What knife does John Wick use in Chapter 4?
In John Wick: Chapter 4, Wick carries the Hawk Deadlock Model C, a double-action OTF from Hawk Knife Designs. In the first three films, he carried Microtech OTF knives. This knife is a 2025 Titanium Model C, the same model, in M390 and blue Fat Carbon.
Is this knife from the John Wick 4 set?
No. Hawk limited the John Wick 4 set to 500, each with a black DLC CPM MagnaCut blade, a wooden box and a signed COA. This knife has a stonewashed M390 blade and blue Fat Carbon inlays, and it ships in a Hawk pouch. It shares the same Deadlock lockup.
What is Fat Carbon?
Fat Carbon is a Carbon Fiber composite from Lithuania. It combines Carbon Fiber with epoxy resin, and colored polymers and layers go into each billet. As a result, every inlay shows its own pattern, so no two look exactly alike.
Is M390 steel good for knives?
Yes. Böhler makes M390 by powder metallurgy, with about 20 percent chromium and 4 percent vanadium. That mix gives very high wear resistance and good corrosion resistance, so the edge lasts and the blade resists rust. Like most high-wear steels, though, it takes longer to sharpen.
Is the Deadlock Model C a custom knife?
The Hawks machine and assemble the Model C in small batches in their Idaho City shop, and they hand-tune each one. Dealers sell it as a shop custom. Still, it isn’t a one-off, so collectors judge each Model C by configuration and condition.
Is the Hawk Deadlock Fat Carbon legal to own?
It depends on where you live. Laws on automatic and double-edged knives vary by state, county and city, so check your own before ordering. The Automatic Knife Legal Notice at the end of this listing points to current state-by-state information.
Does We Buy Knife Collections actively support the broader knife enthusiast community?
