Maniac Machining Stinger EDC: Solid 360 Brass, Built by Hand
Troy DuPont built this Maniac Machining Stinger EDC on July 18, 2026 and signed the certificate the same day. He machined it from solid 360 brass in Minnesota, by hand, on manual machines.
No CNC touched it. We Buy Knife Collections is the only authorized Maniac Machining dealer, so this piece comes to you new and direct from the bench it was built on. Browse the makers we follow most closely in our guide to the most valuable custom knifemakers.
Why 360 Brass
The certificate names the alloy specifically, and that choice tells you something about how DuPont works.
C360 free-cutting brass holds the highest machinability rating of any copper alloy. The entire industry scale is indexed to it. For a machinist cutting every surface by hand rather than programming a machine, that matters — it takes a clean cut and holds a crisp edge on a milled detail.
You can see the result in the three raised bands across the handle and the way the front bolster hooks forward. Those shapes come off manual machines, and they are the sort of thing that gets rounded away when nobody is paying attention. Our knife knowledge library covers materials and how they behave.
The Blade and the Fuller
The blade runs a slender clip point with a very fine tip, and DuPont cut a long polished fuller down the middle of it. He marked the flat Maniac Machining.
That fuller does two things. It drops weight from the blade, and it catches light in a line that follows the whole length of the grind. On a knife this size it reads as intent rather than decoration.
The Safety, and What It Costs to Include One
A brass slider sits in the spine of the handle. DuPont machined it, fitted it, and made it part of the design rather than an afterthought bolted on.
He has said a safety was something he always wanted on his conversion knives and never had. When he designed his own automatic, he engineered one in. Most makers at this price skip it, because a working safety adds parts, tolerances, and hours.
The firing button sits in the front bolster, machined and fitted the same way. See the rest of the makers we carry on our shop by maker page.
Weight, and Why It Feels Like This
This knife weighs 9.2 ounces in a 6.25-inch package. That is a lot of mass for the size, and solid brass is the reason.
Nothing here is a lightweight scale over a hollow frame. The handle is brass through and through. Pick it up expecting a normal folder and the heft registers immediately. That density is the point of the material.
The Classic and the Custom run natural handle materials between brass bolsters, which brings the weight down. This one goes the other way and commits to the metal entirely.
Condition of This Maniac Machining Stinger EDC
New from the maker. Nobody has sold, carried, or used it.
The brass carries no handling marks and shows the finish DuPont left on it. The edge has never been touched. The action and the safety work exactly as he tuned them. Read how we grade to see what our condition language means.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the Maniac?
Troy DuPont. He has machined for over 35 years, established Maniac Machining in 1998, and reopened the shop in 2021. He designs and builds every Stinger himself.
How does the EDC compare to the other Stingers?
The EDC is the working version of the design, built from solid brass throughout. The Stinger Classic in brass and yak horn and the Stinger Custom in brass and mammoth set natural handle materials between brass bolsters, which is what moves them up in price. Same hands, same manual machines, same safety across all three.
Is this really made without CNC?
Yes. He performed every operation by hand on manual machines. That is unusual at any price for an automatic, and it is what separates his work from most of the market.
Will the brass patina?
Yes, and that is normal. Brass darkens with handling and time. Some owners polish it back, others let it go. Neither approach hurts the knife.
How do you verify authenticity?
This knife came directly from Troy DuPont with his hand-signed certificate. Questions are welcome on our FAQs page.
