Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray, a Custom 1 of 1 in Mirrored DLC
The Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray puts Zircuti in two places. A fitted strip sits inside the fuller of the blade. More Zircuti fills the windows of a Titanium frame finished in mirrored black DLC. Dew Hara built this custom Ray as a 1 of 1, and the clip records that edition.
Dew sent it to us directly from Japan to We Buy Knife Collections, and it arrived on October 15, 2026. We have carried two earlier Rays. The Ray in 300-Layer Pyramid Damascus used Zircuti for its frame and Yellow Abalone in the blade. This one turns that idea around and sets Zircuti into the steel itself.
Dew Hara, Son of Koji Hara and a Modern Master
Dew Hara is the son of Koji Hara, the legendary Japanese knifemaker. He grew up in a knifemaking family and learned the trade by helping his father. Dew studied and worked in that workshop for more than 20 years. Then he set out to develop a style of his own.
He also trained under Anthony Marfione of Microtech Knives. So his folders draw on two traditions at once. Japanese finishing discipline comes from his father’s bench. The tactical folder design comes from his time under Marfione.
Collectors widely respect Dew Hara and celebrate him as a modern master. We Buy Knife Collections is an authorized Dew Hara dealer, and we also list one of his father’s designs. The Rockstead NEHAN is a Koji Hara design, built by Rockstead in ZDP-189.
Zircuti Inlays on the Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray
Zircuti is a Damascus of Titanium and Zirconium. The two metals sit in layers, and the pattern shows as rings and bands across each piece. On this Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray, Dew set Zircuti into three frame windows on each side and into the fuller of the blade.
The inlay in the blade is the standout detail. A fuller is normally an open groove, milled along the flat to remove weight. Dew filled this one with a fitted strip of Zircuti. The material now runs from the frame into the steel, so the knife reads as one design from tip to butt.
We have listed Zircuti on other makers’ work as well. The Yan Knives GTC Cabot uses full Zircuti scales against a Damasteel blade. Set beside it, this Ray shows how differently the material reads against mirrored black DLC.
Mirrored DLC on the Frame and Hardware
The frame, backbar, pocket clip, pivot and screws all carry DLC coating. DLC stands for Diamond-Like Carbon, a thin and very hard carbon layer that resists scratches and wear. On this Ray it has a mirrored, black chrome effect. That finish is hard to photograph, so expect it to look darker and more reflective in hand.
Dew has used DLC across his recent platforms. The GAIA Serial 001 in Two-Tone DLC shows it on an M390 blade and a Titanium frame, and it makes a useful comparison with this Ray.
The Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Blade
The Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray carries a 3.85 inch blade. The Certificate of Authenticity (COA) names the steel as Seismic Stainless Damascus. Its pattern runs in tight, rippling contours across both faces. The profile is a Wharncliffe: the edge stays straight to the point, and the spine angles down to meet it.
A Wharncliffe gives fine control, because the straight edge and the point line up exactly where you cut. Jimping runs along the spine beside the handle for the thumb. A Damascus flipper tab opens the blade, and a liner lock holds it. The liners are 420 Stainless, and the cutting edge measures 3.47 inches.
For a Damascus comparison within Dew’s own work, the CHRONOS Dark Lightning pairs VG-10 Damascus with Timascus inlays. It shows another side of how he uses patterned steel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Dew Hara Seismic Damascus Ray a true custom?
A true custom comes from one maker’s own shop rather than a factory run. Dew Hara built this Ray himself as a 1 of 1. No other knife shares its exact combination of Seismic Stainless Damascus, Zircuti and DLC Titanium. Both the COA and the engraved clip record the edition.
What is Zircuti, and what does it add to the blade?
Zircuti is a Damascus of Titanium and Zirconium, so it shows layered rings and bands. A fuller is a groove milled along the flat of the blade to save weight. Dew filled this one with a fitted Zircuti strip. That ties the blade to the frame inlays and turns a weight-saving cut into a display surface.
What does the DLC coating do?
DLC, or Diamond-Like Carbon, is a thin and very hard coating. On this knife it covers the Titanium frame, backbar, pocket clip, pivot and screws. It resists scratches and wear better than bare Titanium. Here it carries a mirrored, black chrome effect that photographs darker and flatter than it looks in hand.
How does the liner lock work on the Ray?
A liner lock uses one of the internal liners as the locking part. When the blade opens, that liner springs inward under the tang and holds it in place. On the Ray the liners are 420 Stainless. To close the knife, push the liner aside with your thumb and fold the blade home.
